Superintendent Scott Olinger is pleased to announce that Plainfield Community School Corporation’s school board has voted unanimously to appoint Mr. Ryan King as the new Principal of Van Buren Elementary. Mr. King will succeed Mr. Ray Helmuth, current Van Buren principal, who will be retiring June 30, 2023.
Mr. King was recommended by Superintendent Olinger at the March 9, 2023 board meeting.
He has previously served as the Assistant Principal of McCordsville Elementary, a position he has held since 2019. In that position, has been responsible for teacher support, implementation of Professional Learning Communities, testing schedules, staff hires, and much more. Prior to that, he served as a general education and high ability teacher at West Clay Elementary, in Carmel Clay Schools, beginning in 2010.
“We look forward to having Mr. King join the Van Buren and Plainfield Schools family. His experience and skills will be a wonderful addition to our team, and we know that he will be an asset to the students, staff, and families as Van Buren’s principal,” Superintendent Olinger said.
Mr. King holds a Bachelor’s Degree in Early/Middle Childhood Education from Butler University, a Masters in Elementary Education from Indiana University-Purdue University Indianapolis, and a Masters in Educational Administration from Butler University.
Mr. King states, “I am excited for the opportunity to serve and help lead the Van Buren Elementary school community. I look forward to supporting all stakeholders, while building relationships with the students, staff, and Plainfield community. Van Buren is a school that is held in high regard with continued excellence, and it has a visible passion for teaching kids. I am excited to be a part of building on its already strong foundations.“
Mr. King grew up in Greenwood, but looks forward to relocating to join the Plainfield community. In his spare time, he is a marathon runner and enjoys trying new restaurants, and spending time with his friends and family.
