We encourage our students to be kind all year long, but Central Elementary’s PTO took it to another level…
An OLYMPIC level!
Their Kindness Raise Craze fundraiser this year was titled “Lighting the Torch of Kindness”--students log their acts of kindness while raising money from friends and family. They also got to take part in Olympic-themed events, with different classes and grade levels being split into 5 teams (like the Olympic rings) and competing to see who could complete the most AOKs (acts of kindness). They had a family volunteer night, a float in the Quaker Day Parade with their mascot, Larry Bird, and so much more!
Top fundraisers and AOK-ers got to have a special Olympic themed breakfast with some locals tied to the Olympics– Vern Fleming and Steven "Huck" Huckstep. Vern Fleming played for the Pacers for 11 seasons and was in the 1984 Summer Olympics Men's Basketball Team, playing with teammates Michael Jordan, Patrick Ewing, and others. Huck carried the torch in the 1996 Olympics and brought the torch to share with the students. He is a Plainfield resident and works at Gear Up Cyclery.
Great job, Central Champs! Keep up the kindness!
