Squishmallows

Back in December, Mrs. Cade's first-grade class at Clarks Creek had an exciting day planned–”Mittens and Marshmallows!” Designed to get students comfortable with repeating letters in words, one activity had students researching and designing their own Squishmallows. This project not only sparked their imagination, but also honed their artistic skills.

Mrs. Cade reached out to Mrs. Seifert, one of the Family and Consumer Sciences teachers at PHS, and another project was born. Her period 1 and period 3 students eagerly took on the task of bringing the first graders' designs to life. For them, it was more than just a project—it was an opportunity to contribute to the joy of younger students while applying their learning practically.

Fast forward to March 8th, Mrs. Cade’s students celebrate “Toy Day”—both celebrating toys and practicing the ‘oy’ sounds. But this year, it held special significance. They received the unique squishmallows they had envisioned and designed months prior. The excitement in the air was electric as they received their creations, representing their own creativity and collaboration with high school students.

“Toy Day” became more than just a celebration of play; it became a symbol of the power of imagination and our motto – ”bringing joy to learning.” By seeing these squishmallow designs come to life, Mrs. Cade's class and the PHS students shared a memorable experience that bridged age groups and inspired creativity.
