For the second year in a row, Central Elementary students adopted all of the boys’ basketball players at Plainfield High School.
They wrote them letters and notes that got delivered to them before games. Each class has a player that they’ve “adopted” and students spent the basketball season corresponding with them. Anything from ‘get to know us’ to questions about their favorite players, and even drawings were sent to the players to look at during team dinners.
For students and teachers, this wasn’t just a fun activity. Writing prompts were given to each grade level, which allowed students to work on proper capitalization, sentence structure, story building, writing style, and more. It allowed them to work on improving upon their writing from the previous week, while learning new vocabulary and skills.
The players loved getting their letters this season. To thank the students for their support and excitement, all Central Elementary students were given a voucher for free admission to the Senior Night basketball game this past Thursday. Students got to line up for high fives from the players, sat and cheered on their ‘basketball buddy’ and had a great time!
Sectionals start this week, and we know all the Central Champs are shouting ‘Good Luck!’ to their basketball buddy!
