Fourth grade students at all Plainfield elementary schools had an exceptional opportunity shown to them over the last few weeks. All of them are now able to take part in “Every Kid Outdoors,” a program sponsored by the National Parks Service. This program, EKO, gives 4th grade students free access to more than 450 National Parks or National Parks-affiliated sites. From 63 national parks to more than 400 sites and landmarks, every 4th grader can get their families in for free as “National Parks Ambassadors!”
Mrs. Karisa Schwanekamp, PCSC Technology Integration Specialist, spent time with all of these students, introducing them to Park Ranger Jenny from the National Mall, who talked through the program. These students and their families have already started making plans to visit several parks over the upcoming fall break!
Programs like this are fantastic resources for students and families, where students can find the joy in learning about the outdoors, creating lasting memories, and inspiring STEM-related observations in the real world.
We can’t wait to see where these 4th grade Quakers visit this year!
